Donald Trump for President???

Like many of you, I too have been watching American politics very closely these days. I'm not watching because I have a vested interest, though being the neighboring country to the north, we probably should all have a vested interest technically. The reason I'm watching though is to see the circus unfold.

I can't believe a man like Donald Trump is the best American politics has to offer. Really?? Here you have a man who has been incredibly successful, even though many would argue that he inherited a small fortune, and has had many failures in his business life. Let's face it, he's rich. One thing is for sure, he's not running for President for the money. That being said, this guy is a complete power freak.

Let's just talk a second about one of his last town halls, where he encouraged violence and offered to pay for any perpetrator's legal bills. Is this the would-be President they are all talking about? Am I the only Canadian thinking Americans (at least some of them) have completely lost their mind.

Now hang on, in their defense Americans are really "angry" these days. I don't know if I should laugh or cry. I'm angry too, about a lot of things, but when anger gets the best of us it causes us to do incredibly stupid things, and make incredibly stupid choices.....like voting for a guy like Trump.

So here's my analysis thus far on the American Election 2016:

  • Trump's best genius, is his ability to act like a total idiot. Subsequently, this has suckered many Americans into worshiping at the Trump alter.
  • Americans are not thinking clearly and many of them have lost their minds...apparently.
  • Laugh if you will, but being Canadian right now, I wouldn't be caught dead going to the States at the moment. Good Lord, I might be mistaken for an immigrant and "taken out" by some crazy ass Trump supporter.
  • I think anyone comparing Canadian politics with American politics when it comes to Trump is completely and utterly delusional.
  • I've never been more proud to live in Canada and be Canadian.
  • The American so-called "dream" is quickly becoming a "nightmare"!

There you have it. That's my "2 cents" as they say. In closing I'd like to wish my neighbors to the south the best of luck. If Trump wins the election they are all going to need it. As Rick Mercer recently pointed out, if Trump wins the American election followed by Kevin O'Leary becoming our Prime Minister, I'm not going to look for another country to live in, I'm going to look for another planet!!!

Could Spring be in the Air?

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but it seems winter was/is a little weak this year. Parts of Newfoundland had periods of no snow on the ground in February? The Rideau Canal in Ottawa was open for the fewest number of days of the season in it's history? What the hell is going on here?

Before you get all excited, don't tie yourself to a tree yet. I'm not hinting toward global warming or anything. I'm not anti-environment, but I'm certainly not an environmentalist either. It does seem in recent years though that weather patterns are all over the charts. I wouldn't want to be a meteorologist these days. Those poor buggers can't get anything right anymore.

So here I am in mid-March, and I dare to say it, but I think I'll soon have to put my skates, shovel and snow blower away.....IN MID MARCH. WTF!!! Almost time to break out the shorts and set up the pool, lol!

Granted, I live in the Ottawa area where only a few short years ago we had 30 °C weather in March, so this is nothing that strange here. When I hear of Newfoundland not getting that much snow, now that worries me. How would I get out on snowmobile if there was no snow? That's not winter on the Rock!

I guess the moral of the story is that with today's crazy weather shifts and patterns, we have a lot more of this uncertainty to look forward to. It must be a sign of the times I suppose. Here's to a better winter season in 2016-2017! If I just jinxed us, I apologize. Oh and here's to Environment Canada and the 7-day forecast!!!

Welcome Back!

Well howdy all! It's been a long time since I wrote in my blog so we got a lot to cover. The only tricky part will be trying to figure out where to start.

Firstly, I'd like to send out my sincere condolences to all Newfoundland residents including my family, friends and the like. I know you are all really saddened at this time. I am very sorry for your loss. I never thought it were possible, but I have been proven wrong once again. Summer has completely skipped Newfoundland this year. I can't believe it. Usually I would say something like that as a joke. This year the jokes on us. When you have to keep your furnace running or woodstove burning in July, there is something seriously gone wrong in the world. Global warming my ass! Maybe we should all start preparing for another ice age!

Secondly, what good catch up blog article could be written without mentioning something about politics. Ya gotta love those Trudeau attack ads though eh? Can you believe how much money this federal government is wasting in those ads? Are Canadians that out of touch with reality to believe anything that Harper and his cronies cook up? Last time I checked all the big names in Harper's rat pack were jumping ship like it were sinking. What's funny about it all is that while the Harper Conservatives are so focused on running the Trudeau name and his hairdo (how stupid is that by the way.....I mean really?) into the dirt, the New Democrats are leading in the latest polls. Hang on while I stop writing so I can have a big chuckle over that one,.....bahahahahahahaahah!!! Anyway, Harper's days are numbered, at least his majority government is anyway. If he gets a minority government in the Fall, it will be by the skin of his teeth.

Thirdly, now on to oil and the economy. I'll be the first to admit that I'm no investment expert, that's for sure. One thing I do know though is how fragile and corrupt this economy is. I say fragile because as we've all seen in recent weeks, our looney is dropping in value by the day, and Canada is teeter-tottering on the brink of a recession. I use the word "corrupt" because,...well just because I can.

Ok, ok, I know now that I said "corrupt" I have to back that up with some reasons as to why I mentioned it. First things first, big oil don't give a damn about you or me as long as we buy petroleum products. For instance, have you ever actually seen the price at the pumps fluctuate up and down WITH the cost of the barrel of oil? I have only seen it once but it didn't last. There's always an excuse to keep the gas price up. Today it's because it's the long weekend and more people are using gas, tomorrow it will be because the barrel of oil went up, the next day it will because production has been reduced, the next day it will be because the US stock pile is low, and so on and so on. Let's call a spade a spade here....what a crock of shit (sorry I think that's the first time I used the word shit on here...oops)! The oil industry has us all in a choke hold, and unless we curve our dependance on fossil fuels, they will squeeze tighter and tighter until they choke the life out of us. That's a fact!

So I admit I feel much better now that I got some of that stuff off my chest. It's nice to vent every now and then. Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their summer. Oh, and to all my fellow Newfoundlanders still living on the Rock, keep your chin up, eventually you'll have a summer.....we hope :-) Peace out!

Barrel of Oil is at an All Time Low

I can't be the only person out there who is loving the gas prices these days. Two weeks ago I went out and filled my gas tank for 76.9 cents/litre. Now prices are in the mid 80 cent range. I thought I'd never see prices this low ever again. Actually, not too long ago I was thinking I'd never see prices below a dollar again. Boy was I ever wrong.

So any theories as to why prices have fallen so rock bottom within weeks? Very odd isn't it? How could this be? Personally, I don't believe the reasons we're being spoon fed for one minute.  If there's one thing I know, especially when it comes to the oil industry, is that NOTHING happens unless it suits OPEC.

Getting into reasons, well there are a ton of reasons as to why this is happening now, but ONLY one reason comes to mind above all else. The oil industry DOES NOT want green intiatives to gain any head way. It's NOT good business for oil and gas if we were to start actually caring about the planet and suddenly decide to stop destroying it. People in general ONLY understand one language. It's NOT English, French, Spanish or Chinese. The single language everyone understands is M...O...N...E...Y. That's right, money. I'm guessing most people are so busy enjoying the brake at the pumps right now, that's it's not on anyone's mind about alterative fuels, electric cars, or the environment. Let's face it, until people start coughing up blood, very little is going to be done about it. The oil and gas industry just unequivocally placed the GREEN movement in a death grip. Since governement only cares about how they can win the next election, you'll see less and less interest from government to do anything about the environment as well. Unless we see a revolution of sorts, that WILL NEVER change.

So for now, like many others, I'll just keep burying my head in the sand and enjoy these rock bottom fuel prices. It's only a matter of time before fuel prices sky rocket again and this will only be a pleasant but distant memory. I have a feeling though that lower prices are here to stay for a while. You can kiss environmentally friendly alternatives goodbye. I'm sure big oil and gas are crying a river....yeah right!

Welcome to the 21st Century!

It's been a sad week here in Ottawa after a gunman shot and killed a military officer and then made his way to Parliament Hill and inside the building where he opened fire on people there. Luckily no one else was injured, largely due to the efforts of sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers, who shot the gunman before he could do more harm. The gunman has now been identified, whose name I will not mention.

I can't believe that after 13 years, Parliament Hill wasn't better prepared for such an incident. It doesn't say much about our elected representatives if since 9/11 no one stopped to think that maybe, just maybe, the day would come when Parliament Hill would be attacked in some way, somehow. Are we that naive to think we're so "loved" on the international stage?

We're not living in the same world we lived in 20 years ago. Things have entirely changed. The days of "it only happens over there" or "that could never happen here" are long gone. It's ridiculous to think we're just clueing into these facts.

If one good thing could come out of recent incidents in Ottawa and Quebec, it will hopefully be that these potential threats will be taken much more seriously from now on. It doesn't mean we have to give up our way of life or our rights. Certainly goodness though, we can all be a bit more vigilant, and our elected officials can take a few more steps to protect themselves, our soldiers and the general public as a whole.......

Oh Canada! Say it isn't so!

I have to apologize before I even start writing tonight, because I really feel like ranting. It's been over a week after all since I last wrote an article. I knew it would only be a matter of time before I blew my top.

I was watching the evening news a couple of days ago and heard them talking about our National Anthem. Apparently "Oh Canada" is not gender neutral enough, and they want to change the words to make it more inclusive. What a pile of monkey crap.

I would think there are more pressing issues in this country right now than picking on the Anthem. What about the economy, jobs, our veterans, seniors, etc. That's not to mention recent threats made by ISIS. Instead we're tabling a bill to change the words of the National Anthem.

What is it with this generation and wanting to always mess with Tradition? What difference does it make anyway? Are there people out there who are really that pissed off because of the words in the Anthem? I never see anyone grinding their teeth when they are singing it.

Perhaps we should get rid of all Tradition while we're at it. No need for marriage, let's just get rid of that. Oh, too much religion and religious references, let's just get rid of the church entirely. Hey, while we're at it, we don't need laws or the police, shut that all down too, it's way too traditional and it offends me when the police enforce the law. We don't need the air we breath or gravity either, that's way too Traditional. Can anyone else see how stupid it sounds when people talk verbal diarhhea?

There's nothing wrong with Tradition folks. If it weren't for Tradition, none of us would be here. I think it's time for people to back off.

Just leave "Oh Canada" the hell alone!!!

Need Some Extra Cash? Look no Further

Need some extra cash? Look no further than your garage or basement! Yes, you heard me right. I don't have some lame product I'm trying to shove down your throat, or some tear jerking success story. I just have facts.

Over the past 16 years my wife Carole and I have been together, I've learnt that most of us accumulate a lot of "stuff". Notice I used the word "stuff" and not "junk". That's key here, because what you might think is junk, actually is worth something to someone. If you're real lucky, some people may be prepared to pay a lot for it. It don't matter what it is. It could be a car, children's toys, books, sports equipment, you name it.

So what's my point? I'm getting there. Before I go further though, let's make one thing abundantly clear. Well known classified ad websites are NOT good places to sell your "stuff". Most of us have a lot of things around the house that you no longer need, but could come in handy for someone. The problem with big classifieds websites is that very few people want to drive an hour to pick up your "stuff". In fact, most of the time you get that typical reply, "Duh, I'll give you $20 for it if you can deliver it to Tim Buck Two", yeah, right!

What I've just recently discovered is Faceboook. Ok, now don't laugh at me. I know it's not really well known, and many of you have probably never used it, so just thought I'd help you out here. (sometimes I'm very sarcastic by the way, lol!) What I'm getting at, in a very round about manner, is that you shouldn't advertise on a website as vast as some of those big classifieds websites for small items. You're really wasting your time. You need to concentrate locally.

I live in Limoges, Ontario. It's a small town of approximately 3,000 people located 20 minutes east of Ottawa. My wife Carole introduced me to 3 or 4 local classifieds groups on Facebook this week. No word of a lie, we're lucky if the stuff we post in these groups lasts a day. I put a drill press on there 5 hours ago and it sold in 5 minutes. It's crazy, Carole sold $150 dollars worth of kids toys and books in the past 18 hours. Perhaps it's the area we live in, but I'm telling you it's been a real eye opener.

So here's what I want you to all do. Dig out all those used clothing, books, toys, and other unused goodies. Then go on Facebook and search for groups in your area where you can post your "stuff" (NOT "junk", lol). I'm sure there must be a group, for example, called Twillingate Classifieds on Facebook. If there is not, then create it! Let's get local classifieds groups running everywhere on Facebook. It's absolutely FREE and there's no hidden agenda. We're just a bunch folks trying to buy and sell the things we want or need, and we don't want to have to drive 3 hours to pick it up.

There's an added bonus by the way. We've noticed you can get more money for your stuff locally as well. Who would have known. Happy shopping!
